Welcome in Geerpark

The aim: a new area to build, which breathes, where all houses look out on a green environment, a new area that will be developed DURABLY. Where livability, health, security and (bio) diversity very well go together with comfortable and payable living. A never ending story of durable development. That is Geerpark.

this project is a cooperation of municipality of Heusden, housing corporation Woonveste, The province of Noord-Brabant and Waterboard Aa and Maas.

Most sustainable housing district in the Netherlands

The housing estate ‘Geerpark' will be built in the municipality Heusden, right on the boarder of Vlijmen. It involves an area of 46 hectares, where 700 to 800 newly built residencies will be developed. The aim for Geerpark is to become the most sustainable suburb in the Netherlands. The municipality of Heusden, the house corporation Woonveste, the Waterboard of Aa & Maas and the Province of Noord-Brabant work intensively together to design a new landscape, a new watersystem, create biodiversity and develop energy neutral, environmental friendly, affordable houses.

Location of Heusden

In 2007 the process started when 30 people designed an ambition statement. After that groups researched several themes in depth; on energy, on biodiversity, on houses, on health issues. Experts and nongovernmental organisations are involved in this process. In 2010 the first houses will be built. In 2013 the phase of designing, developing and building of houses, roads, landscape will be ready

The land

The land used to belong to a seed market. Part of the old building (called ‘Mommersteeg') still exists and is now industrial heritage. On the west side of the area lies former monestary ‘Mariënkroon' that is now owned by a foundation called Focolare. On the east side of the area lies the village Vlijmen.

Public area

Between clusters of houses relatively big public space will be present. The use of this area needs to be multifunctional (Profit) and with as little disruption of the soil as possible. Attention will be paid to biodiversity (Planet), but it still needs to be safe and useable for recreation and relaxation (People).

Another idea that is being developed is the integration of a  innovative children's farm into the neighbourhood. How would you develop the public area?
